James joined Archibald Shaw in June 2017, bringing with him several years’ experience managing and undertaking stress analysis and finite element modelling within the mechanical engineering sector. While at Archibald Shaw, he has undertaken a wide range of design and assessment work across both civil and structural engineering sectors.

 

Career Details

 

During his undergraduate studies at Imperial College, James was awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust (QUEST) scholarship. He was sponsored by Skanska UK and secured six months construction site experience on M1 widening and Crossrail advance works projects prior to graduating in 2012.Upon graduating, he joined Frazer-Nash Consultancy, working within the Structural Integrity team on technical consulting projects primarily concerning design assurance, root cause assessment, risk management and asset life extension. Projects spanned a variety of engineering sectors, including oil and gas, nuclear, defence, transport, power generation and renewable energy. James gained commercial and contractual experience from leading several large tenders in the nuclear fusion industry and became a Chartered Engineer in 2016.James developed his structural engineering knowledge and experience during a year in New Zealand, undertaking design and assessment work for a variety of reinforced concrete, steel and timber buildings. This included earthquake assessments of existing buildings and the design of strengthening schemes sto achieve current building standards.Since joining Archibald Shaw, James has taken responsibility for the technical delivery of a variety of projects within the residential, commercial, healthcare, education, and entertainment sectors. He has demonstrable experience in the renovation of historic buildings and temporary works design. More recently he has undertaken several forensic assessments of civil and structural engineering failures and civil litigation cases.
