Westhampnett Depot, Chichester
Chichester District Council has appointed Archibald Shaw as the Principal Designer to undertake a major redesign of its Westhampnett Depot in order to facilitate a large vehicle wash facility with significant works to include electrical charging points, surface water capture and recycling, together with automated entrance facilities to accommodate commercial traffic.
Designs are in progress with a view that an invitation to tender will be issued later Autumn 2019.
The Reef, Bournemouth
Archibald Shaw has been assisting T&B Contractors with the redesign of existing courtyard paving and surface water drainage design. Courtyard paving lies on top of a structural deck which covers an underground car park which has suffered distress since its construction in 2008. The degree of conflicting constraints, together with the original design and construction have proved a challenge. Nevertheless, designs were completed on time in order to enable T&B to progress works with confidence.

Roundwood timber frame in the South Downs
A new ‘low carbon ‘ workshop building is currently being constructed near Liss, Hampshire. Archibald Shaw’s designs included the design of concrete-free foundations and timber Cruck frames. The foundations were designed to be free from cementitious material, free draining and resilient to movement and rot. Straw bale walls were incorporated within the walls to offer resilient insulation.
Parc Emlyn, Carmarthenshire
This proposed residential development of 90 units for Low Carbon Construction forms part of a proposed regeneration project in South Wales. Archibald Shaw’s designs incorporate foul and surface water drainage management which integrate with proposed highway link roads. A number of conflicting site constraints demand significant attention to detail and close collaboration with Carmarthenshire County Council.
